Stepping outside for a coffee today I walked past one of the local news stands which had on display copies of one of the local rags baring the headline “Unemployment to hit 1 Million!” (A figure pretty large by Australian standards).

It kind of got me to thinking how helpful, or perhaps more to the point; unhelpful the media are being during these tough economic times.

Ah bugger! It looks like the unemployment rates for countries around the world are reaching all time highs. The USA is seeing rates nearing 10%, as are The UK and Australia with the folks in many European countries such as Spain seeing unemployment rates of nearly 18%

At least you know that if your out of work then you are not alone. On the flip side, the fact that your not alone will probably not help you so much in your search for a new job.

Hello Hello Hello ………. OK, that’s a virtual echo and I think life online will remain like this for some time however Work Jobs Employment is now live… Yay!

I have little idea how popular this site will become or whether or not it will draw a single visitor but for me the creation of this site fills the need for a hobby so if your are reading this (and your not me) then welcome?

It’s a pretty crap time to be looking for a new job in anyone’s book and it’s not going to get any easier. A couple of weeks ago I found myself in the situation where my job (and that of many of my work colleagues) was at the risk of being made redundant. Thankfully I escaped the ‘chop’ on this occasion however many (in fact most) of my work colleagues were not so lucky.

If I’m being honest, the thought of being out of work terrified me. Like many folks I have 101 financial commitments. I have a mortgage, a wife and two kids to feed and in the weeks leading up to getting the news I was left thinking what the hell would I do if I found myself out of work. Continue Reading
